Our last day in Germany happened to be Good Friday, a national holiday and a festive time in Germany. Our breakfast at the Hilton Heidelberg was decorated with Easter chocolates and was a fabulous breakfast. We then took the bus and walked up the steep hill in damp conditions to the Heidelberg Schloss, where we had the most unusual English tour from a quirky, strange German tour guide. His manner of speaking can’t be described and the three of us had to fight from laughing at deadpanned lines like “Let’s go outside where it is much easier to see the castle” and occasional slights toward women. Very unusually enjoyable!
We visited the old bridge, stopped for a snack, retrieved our luggage and headed to the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof, where we caught trains to Strasbourg. Luckily the rain held off during our nice four-hour visit to Strasbourg: after figuring out the confusing luggage storage, we walked to Strasbourg’s imposing cathedral and visited inside, then walked to La Petite France and had dinner at an extremely large restaurant called Meteor. Noah had his first Flambee and loved it! We spent almost two hours there before heading back to the station to catch our much-anticipated night TGV to Paris.
We had the 1st class train car to ourselves
